  • Give us a quick summary of what Fairy Cute specializes in.
  • We are very much enjoying making the costume sets with brightly colored tutus, and coordinating accessories. And then there's the bath and body products we're getting into slowly too. We want to offer a variety of products - both handmade and mainstream items - catering to folks of all ages. We specialize in pretty much anything that is pretty, cute, sparkly...and of course, fairy-related!

  • What drew you to fairies? What drove you to start the business?
  • I can't remember when my fairy obsession started. Fairies have just always been in my life, it seems. When I was a teenager, the fairy shop movement popped up in Australia, and I visited my first local fairy shop. I was instantly hooked! The owners asked me to work there shortly thereafter and I was in fairyland heaven! My fave job of all time. When I moved to the US, the existence of fairy shops was severely limited so I knew I had to start my own and share my love of it all. So far, so Fairy Cute. Smile

  • So tell us about the name. How did you come up with Fairy Cute? What does it mean to be Fairy Cute?
  • An old friend of mine actually came up with the name years ago. I think it was because I always ran around saying "oh, that's very cute!" It just made sense to be "fairy cute"! Now my stepdaughter says it all the time and she actually came up with the whole catchphrase "Not just cute...Fairy Cute!" Smile

To be Fairy Cute just means whatever you make it...if it's cute and to do with fairies, there you have it. Fairy Cute! Smile

  • What goes into creating your costumes? Where do you get your ideas? Why are they special?
  • Ideas for the costumes come to me when I least expect it. Sometimes it's a color I see, a dream I have, a sound I hear, a person I meet, etc. The ideas also have a tendency to follow my moods. When I'm a little blue, I tend to work with my favorite colors to cheer me up - pinks, purples, greens, blues...and lots of fairy dust! When I'm happy...all kinds of crazy things come out of the Fairy Cute workshop! Even I don't know what's ahead most of the time. I think our items are special because they evolve from a fleeting thought in my mind to the final product and there's quite often a story behind the creation. I'm also not good at repeating myself, so when I create a costume, it's unlikely that there will be another one the same. I tend to fall in love with each set I make...sometimes they are hard to part with!

  • You mainly list children's costumes. Do you create adult costumes or custom costumes on request? If so, how does one go about requesting one, and what price range does it usually run?
  • We do adult costumes from time to time, and occasionally custom orders for both adult and children - either through www.fairycute.com or http://fairycute.etsy.com, word of mouth, etc. Prices for adult costume start at approx US$45.

  • Where did the idea for fairy lip balm come from? What makes your lip balms stand out?
  • I personally am addicted to lip balm, as are many of my friends and their little girls. So, I decided to figure out how to make it myself and it turned out very well!! It stands out because it's beautifully smooth and not sticky or overly perfumed. All natural ingredients make it safer and healthier. And Fairies need to have soft kissable lips too! Smile
