"Fairies of old are now a part of the modern world" - and you can see them at the Savannah Fairy Find!

Heading to Florida this summer? Drop by the beautiful and historic city of Savannah on the way to partake in a daily entertainment event uniquely geared towards fairies and their mortal admirers: Fairy Find. Headed by doctorate of Fairy Sciences Professor Primrose, who teaches at the Primrose Institute, participants learn about fairy history as they seek out the magical beings, wielding clues and cameras, in a sort of fairy scavenger hunt.

According to the Professor's blog, Fairy Find promises attraction for both young and mature audiences: "Knowing that anything a child attends will include at least one adult, finding something that engages both is a hardship. At the Fairy Find you have a short presentation, in the comfort of air conditioning, that details the plight of the modern day fairy and all the other magical entities long thought extinct. Afterward, you create your own schedule for finding the fairies hidden throughout downtown Savannah. If you have a long stay you could go for one a day. If you are here for a short time, hunt down all ten in an afternoon. Perfect for Girl Scouts, class trips, camp trips, family outings, or just faerie enthusiasts."

FairyGuide.com, impressed by the idea of an event dedicated just for fairies, had the pleasure of speaking with the Professor about his show. Our conversation follows.

  • What draws you to fairies? What background do you have with fairies?

I feel that my childhood was full of magic and wonder. And as I grew I felt this wonder slipping away. A world of unseen friends disappearing from my mind led me to frantically explore every story, artwork, and folklore surrounding the fairy world and indeed the super and preternatural world at large.

  • What gave the idea for a fairy scavenger hunt?

I wanted an activity that families could do together. A time when imagination was more important than reality.

  • Tell us about the Fairy Princess, her subjects, and the Goblin Lord.

According to my research, fairies came into possession of gold with potent magical properties sometime before recorded history. The Goblin King, having a terrible appetite for power and wealth, wanted this gold for his kingdom. A terrible war would rage on for ages, until the Fairy Princess, wanting an end to the strife, took the gold and hid with it far from the clutches of the Goblin King and his allies.

  • Why should fairy lovers check out the Fairy Find?

The Fairy Find proposes that the fairy world grew along side our own. The fairies of old are now a part of the modern world and new stories should emerge. The Fairy Find is a step toward accepting fairies and other magical creatures as modern and all around us.

  • What can people expect to learn in classes through the Primrose Institute?

A deep respect for nature and natural magic. How to spot a fairy or goblin. Proper ways to greet a giant. Imps 101. Advanced Gnome Literature.
