The long awaited new Twilight movie came out today! Although I never really got into the series myself, some critics keep citing its rise as evidence of the growing popularity of the fantasy genre. When the vampire craze dies down, they predict, fairies will sweep Hollywood to become the next big thing (think of how the Pirates of the Caribbean pirate fan scene opened the way for Twilight's vampire). They point to an increasing number of popular fairy books as evidence, including Wings, fittingly a kind of fairy version of Twilight, which will soon become a major Hollywood vehicle starring Miley Cyrus.
