Twig the Fairy spreads joy at ren faires, online
Submitted by guide on Tue, 11/17/2009 - 18:58Anyone who has ever attended a renaissance fair in the United States has likely met Twig the Fairy, a rather festive fairy who flies from fair to fair. I remember when I first encountered her two years ago at the North Carolina Renaissance Faire, where I purchased my first ocarina. I won't soon forget her bubbly demeanor, sparkly appearance, the enchanting sounds of her double-winded pipe, and the children dancing toward her as she handed them shiny pebbles.

‘Fairy circles’ mystery intrigue -- South African discovers fairy rings near home
Submitted by guide on Mon, 08/31/2009 - 16:50Fairy circles have for many years often been the topic of discussion. Some believe they may have mythical powers and are places where fairies and elves dance, while others are of the opinion that they are nothing but circles where nothing grows, created by Mother Nature.
Charleen Wallis who lives at the foot of the Magaliesberg just off the Van der Hoff Road, contacted Kormorant after she became aware of the attention that these circles had drawn in several other areas of the country. Charlene said she found these circles, which she discovered while exploring the bushy mountainous areas near her home, interesting and has always wondered what caused them.

Autumnal Faerie Gardens
Submitted by Fairy Godmother on Wed, 08/26/2009 - 07:53Most people associate Spring and Summer plants with fairies, but there are lots at this time of year with strong fairy associations.
Heather is strongly associated with Fairy Portals or entrances to the fairy Kingdom, so it indicates a good place to start looking for fairies. Romany gypsies used to sell white heather door-to-door to bring good luck to a household.

Fairy houses in the wild
Submitted by guide on Sun, 08/16/2009 - 21:43
Nature fairies often build houses in the hollowed bases of trees, since trees protect them and provide companionship. During a relaxing walk in the forest, a human can often find these cozy homes nestled on the forest floor. The fairies hide their homes using a combination of magic and shrubbery, but an open mind will effectively combat both camouflage techniques. Some signs of a wild fairy home include soothing tunes, delicious smells, congregations of small animals, and unusually vibrant plants.
Pick a clover, meet a fairy
Submitted by guide on Tue, 08/11/2009 - 21:07In warm early August the countryside brims with wild clovers, their wild fragrance carried in the wind.
Kathy Harris writes of the flower: "Early Swedish writings indicate that anyone who carried a three-leaf red clover could see and talk with good fairies and ward off evil witches. (And who couldn't use a chat with a nice fairy right now?)"

Ocarinas, a longtime favorite fairy instrument
Submitted by guide on Wed, 04/15/2009 - 19:25At a renaissance festival, a musician lured me with whimsical melodies using a strange whistle-like device. Enchanted, I hovered over to her stand, where I discovered that she and her sister made ocarinas for a living, to my great surprise, because, although I had played Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I never knew such instruments actually existed. A diehard Zelda fan and a lover of music, I stood staring at the shiny ocarinas of all shapes and sizes on the counters.
